Tesla moves to 3D print for EV production

Ana sayfa / Electric Vehicles

Paving the way for electric cars, Tesla is now looking to change the entire car manufacturing process. According to emerging information, Tesla is looking to use 3D printing and sand for electric car production.

Tesla will accelerate EV production with 3D printing

Tesla continues to make moves that shape the automobile world. The brand, which sparked the electric car revolution all over the world, may open a new era in automobile production. Accordingly, Tesla will produce the entire underbody in one piece instead of traditional automobile production techniques. Normally, in traditional methods, the 400 parts that make up the underbody are produced separately.

Tesla is looking to make underbody production much faster by using 3D printing and sand in electric car production.

Automakers don’t prefer molding the underbody because of its complexity and the need for fine-tuning. It has also emerged that Tesla has been experimenting and perfecting its new secret technique for a long time.

Accordingly, Tesla will produce molds made from solid sand cores created by 3D printing. Thanks to these molds, it will be possible to produce the underbody in a single process with the monolithic chassis production technology Giga cast.

Tesla will need to build much larger Giga Presses with this new production process. According to experts, this is why Tesla needs a much larger production area.

However, the growth of the production area and the need for large Giga Presses are not the only problems. At the moment, one of the biggest problems for electric car production with 3D printing is alloy. It turned out that sand core molds, especially those produced at high heat and pressure, did not last. In this sense, Tesla is looking to make the final fine-tuning of the alloy and solve this problem.

It is not clear when Tesla will implement 3D and sand molds in electric car production. Estimates are that Tesla is accelerating its steps to move to this new production process in all its factories.

So, do you think Tesla can create a new revolution in the entire automobile production process with this new production process? We are waiting for your comments.
